Mishka X Phenomenon
I'm not gonna say I'm a huge streetwear fan because I kinda don't think I'm cool enough to wear it. Shouts to all my people who hold down fresh ass street wear tho! But, this jacket is amazing and the details are sick. Its leather and I want it. I want! I want it! I want it! Its the product of a collab between Mishka (street wear giant) and Japanese label Phenomenon and boy is it good. Partake!

Let the Great World Spin
Often, you have to bow to greatness. Those whose words are more poignant, more magical and straight up new jack than yours. This is one of those times. In brief, "Let the Great World Spin" just won the National Book Award for Fiction and its brilliant. I'll let the experts tell the rest. Roll Tape!
"One of the most electric, profound novels...in years. "Let the Great World Spin” is an emotional tour de force. It is a heartbreaking book, but not a depressing one. [It] can feel like a precursor to another novel of colliding cultures: “The Bonfire of the Vanities”. --NY Times Book Review
“With Philippe Petit’s breathless 1974 tightrope walk between the uncompleted WTC towers at its axis, Colum McCann offers us a lyrical cycloramic high-low portrait of New York City in its days of burning; Park Avenue matrons, Bronx junkies, Center Street judges, downtown artists and their uptown subway-tagging brethren, street priests, weary cops, wearier hookers, grieving mothers of an Asian war freshly put to bed; a masterful chorus of voices all obliviously connected by the most ephemeral vision; a pin-dot of a man walking on air 110 stories above their heads.”–Richard Price, author of Lush Life

Macabre Spaces
Kris Kuksi is an artist born in Springfield Missouri and grew in neighboring Kansas. Where we in the U.S tend to destroy our artists, Kris was lucky enough to escape that fate and blossom into a dynamo of the macabre. His illustrations and more impressively his sculptures are so filled with death and decay its as though you can see them degrade right before your eyes. Truly a brilliant artist.

Lucia
This is pretty amazing. I mean, they accomplished this by shooting it frame by frame with a digital photo camera. Thats dedication! And, its part of a three part series :) The voices are creepy and its got a very sort of suspence filled theme. Anyway, I found it interesting and thought you would! Go forth and be entertained!

Spin Cycles
My fine feathered friend .tiff put me on to Flying Lotus..hmm... I wanna say somewhere around early last year maybe and I've been hooked ever since. If you watch Adult Swim you've definitely heard his monochromatic multi-layered sound and wondered who the hell makes music like that. Well, he does, and he's pretty famous for it I think. This one is off his most recent EP LA 3X3 and its even more raw and spacey and earthy as anything else he's done. Of course he's a member of that most esteemed recording company Warp Records which have given us Grizzley Bear and Boards of Canada amongst many others so sit back, relax, enjoy and see if this doesn't make you feel something. Then check your pulse.

War Photographer
War Photographer James Nachtwey has made it his mission to throw himself into danger in order to capture war in its rawest form for some time now and he's created a sort of documentary of that struggle, that calling. Its pretty chilling stuff and as it is Veterans Day I'd like to present something that hopefully will stop all people from fighting wars because although at times fighting is noble and necessary it is still disastrous. Something to think about. I hope your paying attention.

Operation Black
Usually we have photographs up on Wednesdays because, of course, it is photography wednesdays here at 5pt mag. However, its Veterans Day and I wanted to post this. Its called Operation Black and its an animated retelling of something that happened to a particular soldier in the Iraq War. The author is Colby Buzzell and he was a U.S Army Specialist in the war. Seeing it from a soldiers perspective is the only way to see it I think. Partake! And celebrate our soldiers if you can whereever they may be.

The Last Emperor
Valentino: The Last Emperor is a documentary covering his life as well as the end of his career at the fashion house he created. We all know that his lifestyle is lavish and his career long but its sobering to appreciate his very humble beginnings as well as his relationship with his business partner Giancarlo. The film was produced by Matt Tyrnauer ( Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair) and when I went to the Angelica to see the premier he and Andre Leon Talley were there answering questions and telling the story of the filming. All those who say they are interested in or are lovers of fashion this one is for you. The DVD is out so you can go scoop it from Amazon whenever you desire. If you haven't seen it here's the trailer. Enjoy :)
