Usually it would take you a couple minutes, hours, sometimes days to get to a definite destination. But with this un-noticed band to get to your artistically destined destination which may sometimes seem impossible, it will only take you “30 Seconds to Mars.” This American band formed in 1998, has been irrelevant to the music industry for a long period of time. The question that comes up for many musicians is can they reach a certain level of mainstream that will have many followers and much financial success? For most in the music industry it is less than likely that you will see the success that you want to see. But when it comes to “30 Seconds to Mars” they are reaching many around the world specifically those who support the change and revolution within their own environment. So then it becomes a question of how do you define success? Fans of this specific band leave nothing but positive comments about this band on social networks about how their music is not only thought provoking but touches the inner man. Maybe “30 seconds to Mars” have not hit the mainstream, but their music is on the main stage with many of their fans.

“30 Seconds to Mars” is an American Band that was formed in Los Angles, and to this date have three main current band members, Jared Leto, Shannon Leto, and Tomo Milicevic. The first album that was released by the band was self titled. The album did not receive good reviews and went unnoticed as just another band making noise in the neighborhood where everyone is asleep. The next album that the band released was titled “A Beautiful Lie” on August 30th 2005. This album received more recognition from the music world. The video for the single titled “The Kill” received an MTV2 award at the MTV music awards. This album went Platinum in the year 2006.

With all the success of this album “3STM” seemed to not be getting the credit they deserved here in the States but in other nations the band was having an impact with their musical influence.

Recently “3STM” dealt with legal issues with their record label, which stopped the release date for their third studio album which was titled “This is War.” The band was sued by Virgin Records for breach of contract. The band owed the record label under contract three albums and the band refused. Even while going thru a rough time in the courts the band remained active in the studio. Recording songs for their third studio album, they even got the chance to collaborate with Hip-Hop icon Kanye West on a track called “Hurricane”. This particular song did not make the album “This is War” but was a very intriguing song nonetheless, showing the impact of two worlds colliding into each other.

“This is War” was released on December 8th 2009 by “30 Seconds to Mars”, and was the first studio album that was released by the band in almost five years. The front man of the band Jared Leto stated in many interviews that the album was created in an “intense two year period, where it felt like the whole world was falling apart and massive changes were going on, I think you can hear that in the sound of this album.” Many critics have deemed this album as a progressive step toward greatness for this band. The album has a very revolutionary sound and “3STM” discusses all the issues that they face in an almost revolutionary manner. “30 Seconds to Mars” is a band that has gone thru their share of trials and tribulations, but the album “This is War” is their answer to all they went through. The band may not be the most popular but no one can deny the substance within their music that they present to the world.
